The K-Electric (KE) has sought a Rs4.95 per unit reduction in power tariffs for December 2024 due to fuel charges adjustment.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority would conduct a public hearing on February 26 to discuss KE’s application for a negative fuel charges adjustment.

KE’s petition stated that the adjustment was based on the interim reference tariff from March 2023, which would lead to a total reduction of Rs4.94 billion in fuel costs.

Moreover, the KE has sought NEPRA’s consideration for an extra adjustment of Rs5 billion for fuel expenses incurred between July and December 2024. The power utility claims the amount is due to factors like partial load, open cycle, degradation curves, and startup costs. KE has urged NEPRA to approve the adjustment to avoid imposing a future financial burden on consumers.
