In response to the alarming rise in road accidents, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) staged protests and sit-ins at 15 locations across Karachi today, demanding stricter traffic regulations and immediate government intervention.

The demonstrations focused on the increasing number of fatalities caused by reckless heavy vehicles, including dumpers and tankers.

Addressing a central protest in Liaquatabad, JI Karachi chief Munam Zafar called for heavy traffic to be diverted to the Northern Bypass to reduce congestion and accidents in the city.

He also announced the launch of a public awareness campaign to mobilise citizens against deteriorating road conditions and government negligence.

Munam Zafar criticised the poor condition of Lyari Expressway, which has deteriorated at multiple points while toll tax has been unjustly increased from Rs30 to Rs60.

He questioned the authorities, stating, “Where are those who imposed themselves through Form 47? Why do they remain silent on citizens’ rights?”

Demanding strict enforcement of motor vehicle laws, he warned that if the government fails to provide relief, JI will explore all available options to escalate its movement.

Other JI leaders, including Saleemullah Sheikh, Faraz Haseeb, and Kamran Siraj, also addressed the gatherings, urging the public to stand against the worsening traffic crisis and fight for safer roads.

With Karachi’s roads becoming increasingly dangerous, the protests highlight growing public frustration and a rising demand for urgent reforms in traffic management.
