Yasmin Rashid’s letter to chief justice: Women are looking to you for their rights

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former provincial minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, highlighting the ongoing human rights violations over the past three years.

In her letter, she stated that women are looking to the judiciary for justice.

Currently imprisoned in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail in connection with May 9 cases, Dr Rashid lamented that this was her second letter to the Chief Justice, as she had received no response to her first.

“For the past three years, PTI-affiliated women have been dragged by their hair, subjected to violence, and falsely implicated in terrorism cases,” she wrote.

“Police stormed our homes without warrants, violating our privacy and dignity. Many were jailed simply to force them to abandon PTI.”

Dr Rashid, 75, further stated that she has been in prison for 22 months and condemned the re-arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, as part of an effort to suppress the party.

Referring to electoral irregularities, she claimed victory against Nawaz Sharif based on Form 45 but was denied her rightful win.

“I filed a case in the election tribunal, yet no verdict has been given. My fundamental rights have been completely taken away,” she asserted.

She also criticised the 26th Constitutional Amendment and the controversial PECA Act, arguing that they have curtailed human rights.
