It was decided in a meeting presided over by KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, according to a statement. The government also approved the acquisition of 72 additional diesel-hybrid buses.

The procurement process and completion of civil works for the new routes “are set to be finalised within six months.”

Officials also assessed the progress of BRT commercial plazas, with constructions at the Mall of Hayatabad and Dabgari projected to be completed by the end of April.

The priority was given to completing the missing link on Ring Road to tackle traffic challenges in Peshawar.

“At least seven underpasses will be built along Ring Road and University Road, with feasibility studies expected to be completed within two months,” it said.

Plans are also in place for underpasses in densely populated inner-city areas, and authorities have been instructed to eliminate traffic bottlenecks on University Road within a month.

A new road would connect the Industrial Estate with the Northern Bypass, enhancing industrial transport under the upcoming Annual Development Program.

CM Gandapur emphasised the importance of Peshawar’s development, stating, “Peshawar is the face of our province, and its development remains our top priority.”

He noted that financial constraints would not hinder this mission and highlighted the environmental advantages of the BRT system in reducing air pollution.

“A significant initiative was announced to introduce BRT-style services in other divisional headquarters within the province.”

Feasibility studies would be conducted in Mardan, Swat, Abbottabad, and Dera Ismail Khan over the next month, with plans to launch eco-friendly buses based on the findings.
