The controversy began when Musk shared a government data sheet revealing shocking numbers. According to the figures, millions of Americans over the age of 100 are receiving social security benefits.

The data allegedly shows that 20 million individuals aged 100 or older, 3.9 million people between 130-139 years old, 3.5 million individuals aged 140-149, and 1.3 million people aged 150-159

How is this possible?

The US Census Bureau reported in 2020 that only about 80,000 Americans were 100 years or older.

This vast discrepancy raised eyebrows, leading Musk to joke, “Maybe the Twilight movies were right, and vampires are actually collecting Social Security checks.”

The comment sent social media into a frenzy. While some dismissed it as a joke, others speculated that Musk might have uncovered a massive fraud.

One user wrote, “If there are truly 20 million centenarians in the US social security system, we either have immortal beings among us or a serious data corruption scandal.”

A government official from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) acknowledged that the number of registered recipients significantly exceeds the total number of actual US citizens.

He warned that if the figures were accurate, this could be “the largest financial fraud in history.”
