Arsalan Shaikh: NHA’s broken roads are main cause of accidents in Sindh

Sindh Government spokesperson and Sukkur Mayor Arsalan Shaikh has blamed the National Highway Authority’s (NHA) deteriorating roads for the increasing number of accidents in the province.

He accused the federal government of neglecting Sindh, suggesting, “It seems they have removed Sindh from their map.”

In a statement, Shaikh highlighted that 16 people lost their lives in two separate accidents in Sindh yesterday.

He alleged that these tragedies were caused by poorly maintained NHA roads, where even luxury vehicles struggle to travel safely.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:250px;position:relative"

Taking a dig at the federal leadership, Shaikh remarked, “I hope the uncle-niece bond remains strong, but I request the prime minister to pay attention to other provinces as well.”

He further criticised the delay in motorway projects in Sindh, questioning why Hyderabad and Sukkur remain neglected while motorways have been built across the rest of Pakistan.

“People ask why the Sindh government isn’t building motorways — but this is the federal government’s responsibility,” he added.

Demands for constitutional compliance

Shaikh demanded that the prime minister fulfil constitutional obligations, including convening the Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting every 90 days as mandated. He stressed that the federal government must address Sindh’s constitutional and economic concerns.

He also raised concerns about the rising gas shortages in Sindh despite the province being a major contributor to the country’s natural gas supply.

Shaikh claimed that, under Bilawal Bhutto’s leadership, free electricity is being provided to some areas and that the Thar region is on track to produce the cheapest electricity in Pakistan.
