Hundreds of books of on different topics are available on dozens of stalls at the four-day festival.

Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund Chairman Mohammad Tahseen, Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Hamoodur Rehman, and former MPA Mir Hammal Kalmati inaugurated the event.

To honour the birth anniversary of Balochi poet Atta Shad, a special song inspired by his poetry was performed at the event. Gwadar University Vice Chancellor Abdul Razzaq Sabir, highlighted the festival’s significance in promoting a reading culture among the youth and fostering intellectual growth, noting that “successful nations prioritise books and reading.”

The first day of the fair included a theatre performance by Khairjan Art Academy addressing local issues, as well as a session by Dr Ammar Ali Jan on ‘The Changing Global System and Balochistan’.

Folk singers Younus and Digde Baloch are expected to perform at the event.

Discussions also covered the effects of climate change on marginalised communities, with contributions from Mohammad Tahseen and Dr Ammar.

The book fair featured the launch of Gulzar Gichki’s book ‘Zahirook’, with insights from the author and performances by singer Naseeb Mazar and musician Ustad Baqi.
