According to sources, the IMF team has proposed a modern model to enhance budget efficiency and strict monitoring. In response, Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance officials briefed the delegation on the country’s budget release strategy and monitoring system for development projects.

For the upcoming 2025-26 fiscal year, the government is considering establishing a special monitoring cell for real-time tracking of development funds.

Sources within the Ministry of Finance revealed that the IMF has recommended restricting new funding allocations until previously released funds are fully utilised.

This policy is aimed at strengthening financial discipline and curbing unnecessary expenditures.

During meetings with the Ministry of Finance, the IMF delegation also reviewed the budget preparation process. The team examined each stage of budget formulation through the Budget Call Circular and suggested several technical improvements.

Officials confirmed that Pakistan’s next budget will incorporate IMF recommendations, focusing on tighter financial discipline and enhanced transparency in development fund allocation.
