Kanwal, who had been employed by the family just three months prior, was reportedly reprimanded by the child’s mother for neglecting the baby and using her mobile phone. In retaliation, Kanwal allegedly subjected the infant to ten days of abuse.

The parents took the child to a doctor after noticing the baby’s persistent crying. The doctor identified signs of abuse. During this time, Kanwal called the parents claiming her father was ill, and then fled the house after stealing jewelry.

Another domestic worker employed by the family, Kiran, stated that she witnessed the abuse but was too afraid to report it to the family for fear of losing her job.

Police apprehended Kanwal in Bahawalnagar and have handed her over to the investigation wing for further questioning.
