The blast occurred on a main road and primarily claimed the lives of women, with 14 females and one male confirmed dead. 15 other women sustained injuries in the attack.

The explosion reportedly targeted a vehicle transporting women farm workers who were next to the car that detonated.

Civil defense officials, known as the White Helmets, indicated that the death toll could rise as more victims are assessed.

This incident marks the second car bomb attack in Manbij in just three days, following another explosion on Saturday that killed four civilians and injured nine others.

Manbij has been the site of ongoing clashes between Kurdish forces and Turkish-backed fighters since the ousting of Bashar Assad in December.
