PM Shehbaz meets with National Assembly speaker, PPP leaders

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and senior Pakistan Peoples Party leaders Khursheed Shah, Shazia Marri, and Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah to discuss the political situation on Sunday.

The prime minister visited Sadiq’s residence in Lahore on Sunday where he met leaders from the coalition partner

PM Shehbaz congratulated the NA deputy speaker on his son’s wedding and the group discussed the overall political landscape and situation in the country.

Improving economic indicators and the “growing confidence” of international investors and global economic institutions in Pakistan “are encouraging signs,” he said and emphasised that the federal and provincial governments were working together for the welfare of the people.

It merits here to mention that both the parties have made committees to resolve issues as the Sindh-ruling party has claimed that PML-N was not fulfilling its promise relating to “giving space” to the PPP in Punjab.

PPP leaders have expressed such concerns in many TV shows. The PPP has made such a demand to increase its vote bank in the province.

In December, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz does not have the mandate to make unilateral decisions.

“The PML-N thinks it does not need to consult anyone. It does not have a two-thirds majority to make unilateral decisions,” he said while addressing a press conference in Larkana on December 28, 2024.

“PML-N’s politics begins with motorways and ends with metro projects,” he said.

He asserted that everyone has a fundamental right to water, criticising the government’s decision to withdraw canal water as “unilateral”. The PPP chairman announced plans to stage protests and urged the PML-N to make decisions through consensus if they intend to govern effectively. Bilawal expressed hope that their complaints would be taken seriously.
