NA Speaker Sadiq to maintain negotiation committee formed for talks with PTI

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has decided to keep the negotiation committee for talks with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf intact despite a political stalemate.

“NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq remains keen on continuing negotiations, which is why he has ordered the committee to be maintained,” according to the lower house of Parliament’s spokesperson.

It merits here mentioning that both the PTI and the government have dissolved their negotiation committees; however, the NA Secretariat has not yet formally de-notified such committees.

Committees were established between the government and PTI, but PTI announced the cessation of talks due to the lack of a judicial commission’s announcement regarding the incidents of May 9 and November 26.

After PTI’s lead, the government also declared an end to the negotiation process. PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui confirmed the termination of negotiations, stating that if PTI wished for the release of its detainees, the only path forward was to recommend clemency from the prime minister and the president.

Siddiqui, the spokesperson for the government committee, clarified that they have never stated that the government would not form a judicial commission. “The government is always ready for negotiations,” he said.
