Islam, who entered India illegally seven months ago via Meghalaya, allegedly used the SIM card provided by Sheikh during his time in India. Police are investigating how Sheikh obtained the SIM card and her level of involvement in the attack.

The January 16 attack at Saif Ali Khan’s Mumbai residence resulted in the actor suffering six stab wounds. Islam, who had been working in Mumbai under an assumed name, was apprehended on January 19 after a multi-day manhunt. Police have obtained two identity documents confirming Islam’s Bangladeshi nationality.

Khan’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, witnessed the attack and provided a statement to police. The attacker reportedly demanded ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000 USD) during the incident. While Islam claimed the stabbings were in self-defense after Khan grabbed him, doctors removed a 2.5-inch piece of a broken knife from Khan’s spine.

The actor was discharged from the hospital on January 21st. Islam’s father maintains his son’s innocence, claiming he is being framed. The investigation continues.
