This came two days following an attack on a convoy in the Bagan area of Lower Kurram.

A convoy transporting food and essential supplies from Thall to Parachinar was ambushed on Friday shortly after a peace agreement was reached between conflicting factions. The attack led to the martyrdom of two security personnel, with five others sustaining injuries.

In response to the ambush, security forces engaged the attackers, resulting in the deaths of six assailants and injuries to ten more. Initially, reports indicated that only one official had been killed, but it was later confirmed that a second official succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

Of the 35 trucks in the convoy, only two returned to Thall while more than 10 trucks were looted and set on fire, media reports said. Five drivers from the convoy remain unaccounted for.

The local leaders have urged the provincial government to expedite the reopening of blocked roads due to the tense situation and ensure the implementation of the Kohat peace agreement. They warned that if such measures were not taken, the Turi and Bangash tribes would announce their future plans.

In Bagan, security forces have imposed a curfew and commenced operations in the Balash Khel and Kharkalay areas, demolishing eight bunkers so far.

A joint operation involving security forces, police, and the Frontier Corps was underway in the region, with forces taking control of positions in the mountains.

Security sources stated that the operation was focused on militants and individuals involved in looting convoys.

‘KP government has concerns’

“There are concerns that troublemakers have infiltrated peaceful communities,” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Saif said in a statement. He added that action against certain miscreants in affected areas was “essential.”

He added that security forces would be available to support the police and civil administration in such operations.

The KP government spokesperson reiterated that action against the miscreants in the affected areas has become “unavoidable” and the peace agreement would be enforced according to the law and Pashtun traditions.

KP Health Department sends emergency medical supplies to Upper Kurram

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has dispatched a substantial shipment of emergency medicines to Upper Kurram, weighing 3,055 kilogrammes, via the provincial government’s helicopter.

In a statement, Health Secretary Adil Shah said that the disruption of ground communication and severe cold weather has led to an increased demand for medicines in the region.

He noted that the Parachinar Headquarters Hospital medical superintendent had given advance notice of a shortage of supplies, prompting the dispatch of emergency medications.

The medicines are being delivered in two flights by the government helicopter to address the emergency situation. The health department had provided medicines before they went out of stock, the health secretary claimed.

In addition to emergency supplies, routine procurement of medicines for both Upper and Lower Kurram was also being sent via helicopter.
