PMD makes major weather prediction for Karachi

Karachi experienced a day of strong winds and significantly lower temperatures on Friday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The city saw wind speeds reaching a maximum of 29 kilometers per hour (16 nautical miles), with the minimum temperature dipping to 12 degrees Celsius and a high of 25.8 degrees Celsius.

The PMD reported that the northeast winds contributed to the increased chill. Similar conditions are anticipated for Saturday, with sustained strong winds expected to make the temperature feel even colder than the actual reading.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz of Karachi’s PMD further stated that a new cold wave is expected to enter Pakistan from Balochistan starting January 18. However, this western disturbance is not predicted to bring any rain to Karachi.

He added that after the cold front moves towards the upper regions of the country, colder winds could then affect Karachi. The impact of this new western system, bringing cold and dry winds, is anticipated towards the end of January, around January 24th.
