Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has inaugurated Phase One of the six-lane Malir Expressway, now renamed the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway, which will provide uninterrupted access to the National Highway.

The partial inauguration of the 9.1km stretch from Qayyumabad to Shah Faisal took place today, with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also in attendance.

The Chief Minister’s spokesperson revealed that Bilawal personally drove along Bhutto Road, with Murad Ali Shah accompanying him, inspecting the route from the Shah Faisal intersection to the toll plaza.

Murad Ali Shah highlighted that the Malir Expressway is Pakistan’s largest public-private partnership project, stretching a total of 39km. The project begins at Korangi Creek Avenue and extends to the Malir River, with an estimated cost of Rs55 billion.

Equipped with modern facilities, the Malir Expressway signifies a new era in transportation for Karachi’s residents.

The Chief Minister noted that the expressway will connect to the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway (M-9) via DHA and the existing link road, aiming to serve as an alternative to Shahrah-e-Faisal once it becomes fully operational in 2025. It is expected to link major industrial zones and alleviate congestion on Karachi’s roadways.

Provincial Minister Sharjeel Memon commented that Bhutto Road represents a significant step towards development. He emphasized that the expressway establishes a strategic link between central Karachi and the motorway, ensuring seamless access to the National Highway.
