This commitment emerged from a meeting in Dubai on January 8, 2025, between Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

During the discussions, Misri expressed India’s readiness to address the urgent developmental needs of the Afghan populace.

The Taliban acknowledged India’s ongoing humanitarian assistance and highlighted the necessity for further development initiatives. Both parties also deliberated on regional security issues.

The Taliban expressed gratitude for India’s humanitarian support and requested additional assistance in the health sector and refugee rehabilitation.

They reassured India that their government is pursuing a balanced foreign policy aimed at fostering political and economic relations.

Misri praised the Taliban’s efforts to combat drugs and corruption and reiterated India’s intent to strengthen political and economic ties, particularly through trade via the Chabahar port in Iran.

Despite no formal recognition of the Taliban government by any country, India recently resumed a diplomatic presence in Kabul, albeit with a limited staff.
