According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a total of four eclipses will occur in 2025—two lunar and two solar. However, Pakistan’s geographic location means that only the total lunar eclipse in September will be visible within its borders. This eclipse will begin on the evening of September 7 and continue into the early hours of September 8, providing ample viewing time for enthusiasts.

The “Blood Moon” moniker stems from the reddish hue the moon takes on during a total lunar eclipse. This coloration is caused by the Earth’s atmosphere scattering sunlight, allowing only longer wavelengths of light, such as red, to reach the moon’s surface.

The other three eclipses—a total lunar eclipse on March 14 and partial solar eclipses on March 29 and September 21—will be visible in other parts of the globe, including Europe, North and South America, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica. However, Pakistan will be uniquely positioned to observe the September lunar eclipse, making it a significant event for astronomy lovers within the country.
