Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s acting permanent representative to the UN, addressed the Security Council, highlighting the TTP as the largest terrorist group operating in Afghanistan.

Ambassador Jadoon emphasized that terrorism emanating from Afghanistan is a significant threat not only to Pakistan but also to the broader region and the world.

He noted that while the Afghan Interim Government (AIG) is currently focused on combating ISIL-K, other terrorist groups, including the TTP and al-Qaeda, remain unaddressed.

With approximately 6,000 fighters, the TTP is increasingly seen as a central organization for various terrorist factions aimed at destabilizing neighboring countries.

Ambassador Jadoon pointed to evidence of TTP’s collaboration with groups like the Majeed Brigade, which seeks to undermine Pakistan’s economic initiatives, particularly the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The ambassador also warned that the TTP’s longstanding ties with al-Qaeda could enable it to fulfill a regional and global terrorist agenda.

He reassured that Pakistan is committed to taking all necessary measures to combat these threats while cooperating with regional and international partners.

Additionally, Ambassador Jadoon addressed human rights concerns in Afghanistan, criticizing the AIG for imposing restrictions on women and girls, which contradict Islamic principles.

He called upon the international community to assist the 23.7 million Afghans in urgent need of aid and to support efforts to revive Afghanistan’s economy.

The remarks come amid growing concerns over the stability of Afghanistan and its implications for neighboring countries, highlighting the need for a coordinated international response to the challenges posed by terrorism and humanitarian issues.
