The Kalat Monument in Balochistan was set ablaze by unknown assailants, raising concerns over the safety of historical sites in the region.

In response to the incident, the police have registered a case against the unidentified perpetrators and have begun a search to locate those responsible for the attack.

According to police sources, the monument was built a few years ago by the Communication and Works (C&W) Department, located near the historic Miri Fort.

In a similar development, Sindh’s caretaker Minister of Culture and Sports Dr Junaid Ali Shah said that the Culture, Tourism & Antiquities Department of Sindh discovered the whereabouts of the historic Kot Diji Fort’s lost six cannons. The 300-year-old cannons went missing 30 years ago from the historic fort situated in Sindh’s Khairpur district.

Similarly, in 2013, militants launched a hand grenade attack on the Quaid-e-Azam residency in Ziarat during the early hours of Saturday, causing significant damage to the historical site where Pakistan’s founder, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, spent his final days. In this, a police officer was killed with all memorial chairs, beds, and historic photographs of the founder were burnt to the ground in the resulting fire.
