Earlier in the week, there were expectations that the prices of key petroleum products—petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD)—would rise by approximately Rs4 to 5 per litre due to increased international prices and an import premium on petrol.

Considering the final exchange rate calculations and current tax rates, increases in petrol and HSD prices were projected at up to Rs4 and Rs5 per litre, respectively. However, with Ogra’s recent notification, consumers will not see any changes in pricing for the time being.

A notification from the finance division said that Ogra has decided to keep fuel prices unchanged for the next two weeks, citing trends in the international market over the past fortnight.

According to the notification, the price of high-speed diesel will remain at Rs255.14 per litre while petrol will continue to be priced at Rs248.38 per litre. These rates will remain in effect for the next 14 days, providing stability for consumers amid fluctuating global fuel prices.

Pakistan’s fuel rates are determined by a pricing formula approved by the government.

In the fiscal year budget, the government increased the maximum petroleum levy from Rs60 to Rs70 per litre to collect Rs1.28 trillion. The target is nearly Rs150 billion higher than the previous year’s collection of Rs1.019 trillion and exceeds the budget target of Rs869 billion.

The government has imposed about Rs78 per litre tax on petrol and HSD.
