Lt-Col Ali Al Nuaimi, head of cybercrime at Abu Dhabi Police, highlighted the dangers of organized crime syndicates that lure individuals with offers of high-paying remote jobs, only for them to become embroiled in fraudulent activities.

These scams often involve the new hires unknowingly scamming others, eventually leading to charges of theft or possession of stolen money once the fraud is exposed.

Al Nuaimi explained that the scammers typically operate with “imaginary investment wallets” and recruit employees to solicit investments in online cryptocurrency platforms, promising commissions for each client brought in.

The police have seen an increase in such cases, where victims are misled into providing personal information or funds for supposed service fees, only to realize they have been scammed.

Al Nuaimi urged job seekers to be cautious of offers made entirely online and to verify the legitimacy of companies before sharing sensitive information.

Additionally, the officer noted the proliferation of fake government websites and social media accounts designed to deceive users into paying bogus service fees.

He advised individuals to check website addresses for authenticity and to report any suspicious activities to authorities immediately.

Al Nuaimi emphasized the importance of swift action if someone falls victim to a scam, recommending that they freeze their bank accounts and report the incident to the police to help recover lost funds and track down the perpetrators.
