Directorate of Passport and Immigration refutes hike in passport fees; check actual rates

Pakistan’s Directorate of Passport and Immigration has dismissed recent media claims regarding an increase in passport fees, clarifying that the last adjustment occurred on March 7.

“There is no truth to increase in further increase in passport fees,” the spokesperson said in a statement on Saturday.

The spokesperson reiterated the established rates from March, stating that the cost for a standard 36-page passport valid for five years is still Rs4,500 while urgent service costs Rs7,500 and fast-track processing is priced at Rs12,500.

For a 72-page passport, the five-year fees are set at Rs8,200 for normal service, Rs13,500 for urgent processing, and Rs18,500 for fast-track service.

<picture></picture>

A screenshot taken from Passport Department’s March 07, 2024 statement.

Moreover, for a lost passport, the first re-issue fee for a 36-page passport is Rs9,000 under the normal category, with fees doubling or tripling for subsequent losses.

The spokesperson for directorate has urged citizens to ignore recent claims of a fee hike, reaffirming that passport fees are determined by page count and category. This includes distinct rates for 36-page, 72-page, and 100-page passports.

Contrary to previous media reports, which the directorate has denied, there has been no new fee structure introduced by the federal government for passports, including e-passports and machine-readable passports (MRPs), or for replacements of lost or stolen passports.

The existing fee structure remains unchanged, with specific charges for different passport types.

Meanwhile, the fee for a 72-page e-passport is Rs9,000 for normal processing and Rs15,000 for urgent service, valid for five years.

A 36-page MRP, valid for five years, will cost Rs4,500 for normal processing and Rs7,500 for urgent processing without the services charges of Rs1,000.

For a 72-page MRP valid for 10 years, the normal fee is Rs8,200 while the urgent fee is Rs13,500.
