PTI has no objection to Justicce Yahya Afridi as CJP: Shoaib Shaheen

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shoaib Shaheen has stated that his party has no objection to Justice Yahya Afridi’s appointment as Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Speaking on Aaj News program “Spotlight,” Shaheen clarified the PTI’s position, stating that they respect Justice Afridi as a judge and a person. However, he voiced strong criticism of the process used to implement the constitutional amendments leading to the appointment.

He emphasized that their objection lies not with the individual but with the principle of bypassing seniority in the selection process. He warned that disregarding seniority could lead to lobbying and favoritism amongst judges.

Shaheen further criticized the 26th Constitutional Amendment, asserting that it has disrupted the entire justice system.

Responding to questions about the non-selection of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Barrister Aqeel Malik stated that the selection committee evaluated all three candidates based on merit, and all were considered strong choices. He denied any personal issue with any of the judges.
