The Sindh government is set to take over the operations of Karachi’s Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, with the federal government planning to transfer control in December 2024.

The provincial administration has completed all necessary preparations for this transition.

Launched in December 2021, the Green Line BRT currently operates 80 buses along a dedicated 20.9-kilometer route, serving approximately 55,000 passengers daily.

The project remains incomplete, as the final phase of construction from Numaish to Municipal Park was halted in late 2020 after the contract with the National Logistics Cell (NLC) was terminated.

A high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon was held to discuss the details of the Green Line project. Officials reviewed the operations and discussed plans to integrate the Green Line with the Orange Line project.

Memon emphasized the importance of completing this integration before the transfer in December.
