In a recent meeting between K-Electric’s CEO, Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi, and senior company officials with members of the Provincial Assembly Committee on Energy, various critical issues regarding electricity duty and provincial government dues were discussed including electricity theft, a KE spokesperson said on Friday.

The K-Electric’s spokesperson noted that the committee acknowledged the company’s improved performance compared to other distribution companies (DISCOs) across the country. The committee also praised K-Electric’s progress in its Village Electrification Program.

During the meeting, CEO Alvi addressed concerns regarding electricity duty and sought the committee’s cooperation for the settlement of reconciled dues. He emphasized that, under federal laws and regulatory guidelines, the electricity rates charged to customers nationwide follow a uniform tariff policy.

An agreement was reached for additional meetings throughout the month between K-Electric and elected representatives to combat electricity theft and ensure timely bill payments. ’

Alvi highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by theft and non-recovery of dues, clarifying that load-shedding is primarily limited to areas with high electricity theft.

The CEO urged elected officials to collaborate on strategies to address electricity theft in the interest of the public.

The meeting also covered the collection of municipal taxes imposed by the Government of Sindh, with an emphasis on improving timely bill payments and reducing line losses.

K-Electric committed to sharing information regarding regional-level losses to enhance efforts against theft and improve payment compliance. In response to allegations of K-Electric staff involvement in electricity theft, Alvi requested evidence from the committee representatives.

Additionally, the committee was informed that no load-shedding occurs late at night, with approximately 70% of the network being free from loadshedding, while 30% faces ongoing issues.

K-Electric called upon elected representatives for practical support in enhancing recovery efforts and further minimizing loadshedding, particularly in high-loss areas.
