The 63-year-old, known for his calm demeanor during major national events, pleaded guilty in July to three charges related to the making of these images between December 2020 and August 2021.

Edwards faces a maximum sentence of 10 years, with a minimum of 12 months, though his punishment could potentially be suspended.

He admitted to receiving 41 indecent images via WhatsApp, including seven of the most serious nature, with most children being aged 13 to 15, and one as young as seven.

His legal troubles began in November 2022, leading to his resignation from the BBC in April 2023 on medical advice.

The BBC has come under scrutiny for continuing to pay him a salary for six months following his arrest, which was communicated to the network by police.
