PTI finalises strategy to oppose constitutional amendment

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formulated its strategy for the upcoming parliamentary sessions, focusing on opposing proposed amendments to the constitution related to the judiciary.

Speaking to the media outside the Parliament House, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said, “I believe Maulana Fazlur Rehman has taken a principled stance and he is standing by it. This is a very important legislation, which should be done for the nation and the country, not for ourselves.”

“Let’s see the draft first, let’s read it first.”

Barrister Gohar expressed his opposition to extending the tenure of judges, stating,that judges should not be given extensions, their terms should not be extended.

“Don’t touch the Supreme Court.”

“We believe that this will impose restrictions on the judiciary and compromise its independence. Transferring a judge without his consent is unconstitutional,” he added.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe"

Responding to a question from a journalist about whether he had instructed PTI members not to vote for the amendments, Barrister Gohar confirmed, “On September 2, we issued instructions to all our parliamentarians. We have also submitted a complete file of our instructions to the Speaker’s Office.”

    <iframe

It is noteworthy that a PTI delegation led by Barrister Gohar met with JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman late last night. The delegation included Barrister Gohar, Asad Qaiser, Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Sahibzada Hamid Raza.

The delegation attempted to persuade Maulana Fazlur Rehman to not support the constitutional amendment.

    <iframe

However, Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that he does not agree with the government’s proposals and has submitted his own suggestions. He expressed his opposition to extending the term of any individual and is consulting his legal team.
