Will there be public holiday on September 11?

As the nation prepares to observe the 76th anniversary of Pakistan’s founder, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, on September 11 (tomorrow), questions arise about whether a public holiday will be declared.

So far, the government has not announced a public holiday for this occasion. While the government has the authority to declare a public holiday, it seems unlikely this year.

According to the official holiday schedule for 2024, September 11 is not marked as a national holiday. Traditionally, the day is commemorated in Karachi with Quran recitation and prayers at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam.

On the occasion, Radio Pakistan and the Pakistan Television broadcast special programmes to honour Quaid-i-Azam’s pivotal role in the country’s independence.

It is worth noting that Jinnah passed away on September 11, 1948, shortly after the nation gained its freedom.
