As of now, seven individuals remain in critical condition. The deceased include a six-year-old child and a two-year-old girl.

The victims were affected by the use of pesticides on wheat, according to the Sehwan hospital medical superintendent, Syed Abdullah Shah.

“This is not the first occurrence; two similar incidents have taken place in recent days, resulting in a total of seven fatalities across all incidents,” the superintendent report said.

Last week, three people — including two children — died likely due to toxic gases and lack of oxygen, after being stuck inside a 100-foot-deep well at a residential building in Karachi.

In January 2023, at least 18 people were killed allegedly due to toxic chemicals from factories in Karachi’s Keamari district. The cause of death was some chemicals which caused some interstitial lung disease, the Health Department said.
