Former Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram and Assistant Superintendent Bilal, who had been transferred out of the prison some time ago, are also charged with exceeding his jurisdiction.

The officials are accused of acting as ‘messengers’ for Imran. According to sources both officials had special access to Imran’s cell.

Akram and Bilal are currently being investigated by intelligence agencies.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan is currently being held in Adiala Jail in multiple cases including the May 9 protests and corruption.

Both officials had been transferred from their posts on June 22 this year.

Tahir Saddique Shah who was posted as deputy superintendent (judicial) was given the additional charge of Akram’s duties at the time.

According to sources, the IG prisons has been notified about the arrest as well.

Imran Khan has been jailed for over a year and was sentenced to jail in three separate cases earlier this year. The convictions came days before the general election.

Since being sent to jail, Khan has not even been brought out for court hearings. All cases have instead been heard in jail.

During the incarceration, Khan has complained about lack of facilities multiple times, even threatening to go on a hunger strike at one point.
