According to reports in the Indian media, this will be the 30th consecutive year that Qamar Shaikh, who hails from a Muslim family in Karachi, Pakistan, has performed this ritual for Modi.

Shaikh has been tying the rakhi on Modi’s wrist since he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

She herself prepares the rakhi with her own hands to give to her ‘brother’ Modi.

Shaikh, whose original name was Qamar Mohsin Shaikh, married an Indian man and migrated to India in 1981.
