IT Minister reverses billions in discounts granted to LDI companies

The Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has reversed the exemptions and discounts that were previously granted to Long Distance International (LDI) companies by the Ministry of IT & Telecom and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

In a recent meeting with representatives of the LDI companies and telecom officials, Khawaja expressed deep concern and frustration over the significant discounts that had been given to these LDI companies.

She has deemed this a major mistake and has recalled the full notification that had granted these exemptions.

The Ministry of IT has retracted its initial letter offering concessions to the LDI companies. It is now preparing to issue a new directive within the next 24 hours.

This forthcoming directive will mandate that the LDI companies must pay the full principal amount for the renewal of their licenses, rather than just 50% as was previously allowed.

The minister has firmly stated that the licenses will not be renewed unless the complete principal amount is paid, emphasizing the requirement for full compliance.

The new policy will also include a provision that allows the LDI companies to pay the maximum amount in installments. Additionally, the issue of late payments will be resolved in accordance with relevant court decisions.
