“The leadership will first review the matter and then consult our allies, but any decision on a ban will be made in accordance with the law and Constitution,” he told reporters in Lahore.

On Monday, the federal government decided to move a case in the apex court to ban PTI days after twin court decisions that favoured the former leader.

“We are going to ban the Tehreek-i-Insaf and we think that Article 17 of the Constitution allows the federal government to ban political parties and this matter will be sent to the Supreme Court,” Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said at a press conference in Islamabad.

The PML-N also filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against the reserved seats case decision. Tarar also announced that a reference under Article 6 (high treason) of the Constitution would be moved in the SC against Imran Khan, Arif Alvi, and Qasim Suri.

Many legal experts wondered about the government’s decision to ban PTI while some stated that the cabinet can take such a step by issuing a notification.

The deputy prime minister criticised the PTI, calling it a “foreign-funded party,” and said the decision to ban it would be made in consultation with allies.

While speaking about the Centre’s performance, Dar claimed that the incumbent government was not responsible for inflation and it was brought under control during former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s tenure.

Dar, who is also the foreign minister, said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the country was moving towards economic stability. He expressed confidence that “the day is not far when inflation will be curbed, and Pakistan will emerge as an economically strong power.”
