Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that Pakistan has taken note of the resolution’s approval.

The resolution, which garnered 368 votes in favor with only 7 against, calls for a comprehensive and independent investigation into alleged interference or irregularities in Pakistan’s February 2024 general elections.

In response, the spokesperson asserted that the timing and context of the resolution are not conducive to bilateral relations. She further criticized the resolution as being devoid of understanding of the Pakistani electoral process and political realities.

Baloch said that Pakistan believes in constructive dialogue and engagement but such resolutions are neither constructive nor purposeful.

She added that Pakistan hopes the US Congress will focus on avenues for mutual cooperation.“

Baloch emphasized Pakistan’s status as the world’s second-largest parliamentary democracy and fifth-largest democracy overall. She reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to upholding constitutional principles, human rights, and the rule of law in accordance with its national interests.
