The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended the Election Commission’s June 10 decision regarding changes to the Election Tribunal in Islamabad, and issued a show-cause notice to Member of National Assembly (MNA) Anjum Aqeel Khan.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Justice Aamer Farooq, expressed his displeasure at Anjum Aqeel’s remarks, asking him to explain the meaning of “nepotism”.

When Anjum Aqeel apologized, Justice Aamer Farooq remarked that he should not apologize and instead explain the words he used against the judge.

Justice Farooq also expressed his displeasure at the government’s issuance of an ordinance, stating that cases had been transferred overnight through ordinance.

Justice Farooq further remarked, if the case was transferred because the judge refused to accept Aqeel’s recommendations.

The court issued a show-cause notice to Anjum Aqeel, stating that he failed to defend the words he used against the judge.

The petition filed with the Election Commission by MNA Anjum Aqeel contained derogatory language. The court has suspended the Election Commission’s June 10 decision regarding the changes to the Election Tribunal.
