“First we will work on helping her with a harness that we have seen here with a bionics team. We are trying to work on a harness to help her stand which is something similar to what is done for Noor Jehan but in a smaller way,” the CDRS team said in a video posted on its Facebook page on Sunday.

The organisation shared a design, according to which a cloth piece connected to two ropes would go into the belly part. It would be rapped and attached to strings. But still, the team has to figure out how the harness fits in.

The camel was brought to CDRS shelter in Karachi on Saturday after its right leg was allegedly chopped off by a landlord as punishment for foraging into his field for fodder in Mund Jamrao village in Sanghar district earlier this week.

Sarah’s organisation has affectionately named the brutalised camel as ‘Cammie’. Their team has been posting updates on its social media platforms.

According to the animal shelter, they had a “productive discussion” with camel prosthetics from Dubai Hassan. Moreover, they are also coordinating with Four Paws International which also worked for elephant Noor Jehan who passed away last year after collapsing in its pen at Karachi Zoo.

The organisation was hopeful that they would get them onboard.

“The first 10 days have to be just about keeping her relaxed, peaceful, safe, pain-free, and treating her infection,” the CDRS said.

Earlier in the day, a magistrate in Shahdadpur remanded six suspects into police custody for their alleged involvement in the mutilation of the camel.
