Siddiqui, a 49-year-old mother of three, was convicted in 2010 of attempting to shoot and kill U.S. soldiers and FBI agents in Afghanistan.

Her conviction and harsh sentencing have been controversial, with many in Pakistan viewing her as a victim of the U.S. criminal justice system.

Clive Stafford Smith, a human rights lawyer representing Siddiqui, has made shocking claims about her treatment at the Federal Medical Center in Carswell, Texas.

He stated that Siddiqui has been “raped” by prison guards on at least two occasions, and has faced countless other incidents of abuse by both guards and other inmates.

Smith expressed shame as an American over the U.S. prison system’s treatment of Siddiqui, describing it as “pretty unspeakable in terms of the sexual mistreatment.”

He said Siddiqui’s complaints were “extreme” and “true,” and that she has faced the “harshest” treatment of any woman in the federal prison system.

Siddiqui’s case continues to draw attention and outrage in Pakistan, where the governments of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif have made efforts to secure her release.

Her lawyer says he has informed the Pakistani government of the abuse allegations and that it is the duty of her government to protect her.
