The husband, who used to be identified as AK, dated the alleged scammer “Adinda Kanza” for over a year on social media before they decided to get married last month, the South China Morning Post reported.

The couple met in person, with Kanza always wearing hijab attire that covered her entire face, claiming to be a devout follower of Islam.

Despite the face coverings, AK stated that the hijab did not bother him, and he viewed it as a sign of Kanza’s devotion to her faith. As they planned their wedding, Kanza mentioned that she had no family to attend the ceremony, leading the couple to opt for a modest celebration at AK’s home on April 12.

Shockingly, the couple did not officially register their marriage certificate, and Kanza even brought five grams of gold as dowry to the wedding. But just 12 days into the marriage, AK made the startling discovery that his new spouse was, in fact, a man attempting to scam him.

Just 12 days into the marriage, suspicions began to arise as AK noticed Kanza’s refusal to communicate with his family and her continued insistence on wearing the veiled attire even at home. Kanza also constantly made excuses to avoid intimacy, citing reasons ranging from her menstrual cycle to feeling unwell.

Deciding to investigate further, AK tracked down Kanza’s supposed family address, only to discover that she was not an orphan as she had claimed. Her parents were both alive and well, and they had no knowledge of AK as their “son-in-law” or of the relationship.

Further investigation revealed that Kanza was actually a man, identified as ESH, who had been cross-dressing since 2020. ESH later confessed to the police that his intention in marrying AK was to steal his family’s assets.

The police noted that ESH genuinely resembled a woman, especially when wearing makeup, and his voice was high-pitched like a woman’s. They speculated that, although ESH had dated women in the past, he may have enjoyed impersonating a woman while dating men.

According to local laws, ESH now faces fraud charges and could face up to four years in prison for his elaborate deception and attempted theft.
