Injustices against Nawaz have been compensated, Punjab governor says

Punjab Governor Saleem Khan has taken a jab at former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, days after criticising the Punjab Honor Bill 2024.

Speaking on the program “Aaj Exclusive” program on Saturday, the governor stated that Nawaz Sharif should stop dwelling on the alleged injustices he faced, given that his brother, Shehbaz Sharif, is now Prime Minister, and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, is serving as Chief Minister of Punjab.

He urged Nawaz Sharif to hold his brother and daughter accountable, suggesting that he should ensure “checks and balance” them.

Regarding the political landscape, Saleem Khan stated that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) should play a leading role, and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is willing to support them. He dismissed Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s concerns, suggesting that he is not a threat and that Asif Ali Zardari will be able to appease him when needed.

Commenting on the upcoming elections, the governor expressed concerns about the lack of trust in the electoral process. He emphasized that the country cannot endure repeated elections until public confidence is restored. He suggested that the PPP, as the “king of reconciliation,” can bring all parties together to restore public trust.

He criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating that it emerged suddenly in 1997 and became the third-largest party, implying that its rise was orchestrated. He accused Imran Khan of engaging in divisive politics, claiming that he believes resorting to violence will win him votes. He contrasted this with the PPP’s history of saving the country, alleging that the PTI has been destructive. He urged the PTI to accept the elections but allow the country to move forward.

Saleem Khan highlighted the PPP’s history of championing the working class and asserted that he has been tasked with working with the government and avoiding unnecessary conflicts. He expressed his commitment to serving Punjab and expanding the PPP’s influence in the province.
