Hotel owners in Azad Kashmir have stated that even a brief period of strikes has set the tourism industry back by several years.

The tourism sector of the region is getting hit as the guest houses wear a deserted look after violent clashes spread fear among the tourists flocking to the region in summers.

Tour operators in the region are also concerned due to protests and strikes, urging the authorities that demonstrations should be banned because protest videos have driven tourists away.

On May 14, AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq announced price of flour has been reduced to Rs1,100 per 40kg and electricity rates were set at Rs3 per unit for up to 100 units, in a bid to clam the protests.
