Dar says situation in Kyrgyzstan ‘normal’, one Pakistani still under treatment

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has announced that two out of three Pakistani students injured in the Kyrgyzstan unrest have been discharged from the hospital, while one student remains under treatment.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Dar stated that after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ Council meeting, he traveled from Astana to Bishkek, where the Kyrgyz administration provided a detailed briefing on the recent disturbances.

Dar said that the situation in Bishkek has now returned to normal.

Dar further revealed that he had discussed the Pakistani students with the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister, who assured that there was no cause for concern. The Kyrgyz President, he said, had taken serious notice of the Bishkek unrest and ordered the arrest of those responsible.

According to the Foreign Minister, the students are still in a state of fear following the unrest, and a fact-finding committee has been formed to investigate the incidents.

Dar also mentioned that around 1,100 Pakistani workers are employed in Bishkek, who were sent there through a Pakistani recruitment agent. The Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister had promised to issue visas for these workers, Dar added.

Commenting on his visit to Kazakhstan, Dar stated that he represented Pakistan at the SCO Foreign Ministers’ Council meeting in Astana, where he had fruitful discussions with the regional leaders.
