The committee consists of the Federal Board of Revenue chairman, the finance secretary, and the commerce ministry secretary, Business Recorder reported.

The decision came after a meeting between PM Shehbaz and Naeem Mir, the chief coordinator of the scheme, where the challenges faced in implementing the scheme were discussed.

In March, the FBR launched the scheme to integrate traders and wholesalers into the formal tax framework.

But the business and trade community representatives in their meeting with the PM highlighted the issue of tax payments as a significant hurdle. They stressed the need for resolving technical and legal matters related to taxation.

The premier has vowed to tax affluent individuals and potential taxpayers, while also showing a willingness to listen to the concerns of businessmen and traders.

The committee, comprising the finance secretary, the commerce secretary, and the revenue secretary, has been proposed to address the tax payment issues faced by traders and shopkeepers.

Mir, representing the business community, conveyed their concerns and suggestions to the finance minister, acknowledging the government’s efforts to create a favourable business environment and streamline taxation policies.

As of April 30, only 75 retailers and shopkeepers have been registered under the scheme.
