Among those affected is Saima, a 30-year-old mother from Karachi, Pakistan, who had recently purchased new schoolbooks and supplies for her children, six-year-old Asif and 12-year-old Aamir.

The family had eagerly anticipated the reopening of schools after the Eid break, as the siblings were set to start classes in a new grade.

However, their hopes were dashed when their home became submerged in ankle-deep water during the April 16 deluge. The family sought temporary refuge in a friend’s house in Ajman, they returned to find their home still inundated upon their recent visit.

Saima reluctantly admits that she will have to withdraw her children from school due to financial restraint.

The funds they had set aside for school fees and additional supplies will be redirected to address their immediate needs.
