No more tax amnesty schemes, says Finance Minister Aurangzeb

There would not be more tax amnesty schemes, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said on Monday as explicitly stated that everyone would have to pay levy.

He said this while addressing an event in Dubai, Geo News reported. At a Dubai event, Aurangzeb said that economic reforms were related to the country, not any government.

According to the finance minister, the foreign exchange reserves would be more than $9 billion by June and the national flag carrier, Pakistan International Airlines, would be privatised by July.

He shared that talks were under way with Turkiye and Europe for outsourcing the Islamabad International Airport. Karachi and Lahore airports would follow suit later.

Aurangzeb said that for now, there was no need for international funding and efforts were under way to decrease the current account deficit.

He shared that the World Bank was willing to support the ‘Digital Pakistan’ for 10 years.

Last week, the finance minister said Pakistan had initiated discussions with the Fund over a new multi-billion dollar loan agreement to support its economic reform programme, adding that the country would at least be requesting for a three-year programme.
