A ‘prank’ by friends on social media landed a Karachi boy in so much trouble that he had to confine himself to his house for safety.

The young man, named Basit, landed in trouble when his friends found a video of a street criminal in Karachi.

The criminal in the photo seemed similar to Basit in appearance, so they created a post speculating whether their friend was the thief.

The fact that both people were wearing a similar looking silver watch added to the speculation.

However, the prank turned sour as the post went viral, leading to death threats being issued to Basit.

Basit confined himself to his house and had to cover his face with a mask when leaving the house.

When asked about what advice he would give to people to avoid such an issue, he added that people should verify news before posting it. However, he added a more serious piece of advice later on, “Choose your friends carefully.”
