Was Jordan’s Princess Salma Bint Abdullah’s involved in intercepting Iranian drones?

In recent days, a series of posts on social media platforms has falsely alleged the third child of King Abdullah and Queen Rania of Jordan, Princess Salma bint Abdullah had played a role in shooting down Iranian drone, crossing Jordanian airspace directed to Israel.

The claims emerged following Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel, during which over 300 projectiles were launched, the majority of which were successfully intercepted.

The false stories began circulating, accompanied by a photo of Princess Salma, taken when she participated in an aid mission to deliver supplies to Gaza in December of the previous year.

A fact-checking agency D-Intent Data took to X to debunk the fabricated news, revealing that a digitally altered screenshot of a media outlet had been shared to propagate false claims about Princess Salma’s involvement.

The original article, published on December 15, 2023, had the headline “Princess Salma of Jordan Leads Air Force Initiative to Airdrop Medical Supplies in Gaza.”

D-Intent Data emphasized that propagandists were using digitally manipulated news articles to further their agendas amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

The social media platform, X accounts, that are verified including Mossad Commentary and Rasmussen Polls, had also shared the false claims.

The Jordanian Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh, addressed the situation, urging all parties to exercise restraint and prevent escalation that could have severe consequences.

Princess Salma made history in 2020 as the first woman in Jordan to successfully complete her theoretical and practical pilot training with the Jordanian Armed Forces.

Princess Salma’s accomplishments include her graduation from the University of Southern California in 2023, where she obtained a BA degree in Archaeology.
