Brazilian coach Ferraz to leave Pakistan team

Brazilian volleyball coach Issanaye Ramires Ferraz has left Pakistan to join South Korea’s team after a more lucrative offer.

The coach had led Pakistan to success in the Asian Games with notable victories over Korea and India in the tournament, although the team did not end with a medal.

Pakistan was paying him a remuneration of $4,000 for his services. However, Korea offered him twice the amount along with other perks for him and his family.

A video of Ferraz, struggling to hold back tears after the win over Korea, had gone viral last year.

Chairman Volleyball Federation Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob has expressed dismay over Ferraz’s departure, adding that his board’s meagre resources are not enough to retain high-profile coaches.

However, the federation has started looking for other coaches already and is hopeful of making an appointment soon.

Under Ferraz, Pakistan has faced rapid progress, finishing at No 5 in Asia last year.
