“I always send a gift for Khan Sb and this time I have prepared a special gift for him and I have never made such a design,” he told Aaj News about his new collection inspired by the incarcerated PTI founder’s prisoner number.

Our Peshawar correspondent went to the Afghan Chappal store in Namak Mandi Chowk, of which Chacha Noora is the owner, in the city to speak to him.

His footwear became popular after he launched Peshawari traditional double-soled chapel in January 2015. They got a new lease of life after it was popularised as the choice for PTI founder Imran Khan.

Chacha Noora has himself named the new collection ‘Prisoner 804’. He claimed that the footwear available in white and blue, black, and brown colours has patent leather and the rubber used in it was from Japan. The padded leather insole was of Wachal, he added.

“The Khan Sb chappal is the most expensive. Its price is Rs25,000 and the one I have made for the shop is less in price. The one liked by Pakistani people,” he said.

The craftsman hoped that the former prime minister was released safely so that he could personally gift him the footwear, if not he would take it to the Adiala Jail.

The PTI founder is serving a jail sentence at the Adiala Jail. In January, a special court established under the Official Secrets Act handed both former premier Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi 10 years in jail in the cypher case.

In the same month, Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana reference.

In February, a civil judge the PTI leader and his spouse Bushra Bibi to seven years in jail for “contracting marriage during the ‘Iddat’ (period of waiting)” of the former first lady and declared their marriage “un-Islamic”.

On Saturday, the government decorated Chacha Noora with the Pride of Performance award during a ceremony at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor’s House.

He was among the 59 recipients from the province.
