The country’s authorities announced a three-month amnesty during which expatriates, who violated the residency laws, will be allowed to rectify their status or depart Kuwait without facing fines.

The amnesty will take effect on March 17 and will end on June 17. A maximum fine cap at 600 Kuwaiti dinar has been set for expatriates to regularise residency.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Acting Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Al Sabah announced the initiative.

The relief measures are likely to benefit over 120,000 expatriates who are in violation of Kuwait’s residency law.

According to the amnesty, expatriates living in violation of the law will be allowed to settle any outstanding fines and regularise their residency status following the country’s regulations.

They will also be allowed to leave the country via designated ports without penalties, having the option to re-entre Kuwait under new guidelines.

Meanwhile, individuals facing administrative or legal challenges were advised to contact the Directorate General of Residency Affairs to explore possible solutions within the legal framework.
